Marea | Project: Black Panther

Intro.

Black Panther is a superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character, Black Panther. The February 2018 release of this long-awaited film sparked an uproar of excitement and anticipation especially in African-Americans. As a Black woman, I saw how this picture affected my people, and myself. Therefore, I wanted to be apart of this somehow and show my whole-hearted appreciation for the representation of culture, dignity, and class in this feature.

As a Designer, I felt the website that was dedicated to the promotion of the film could use a little more prominence. I love how the site opens with a grand intro of the movie's trailer. After the first screen, the umph seems to quell a bit and I wanted to create something that kept the regal aura going throughout the site.

Design.

Since Purple and Gold were used widely throughout the film symbolizing T'Challa's and Erik Killmonger's Black Panther forms, also with these colors being representative of royalty, I decided to use them throughout the piece. I wanted a typeface that was somewhat tribal to represent the Wakandan culture and came across the Panther font.

I placed some gold lines throughout to represent a touch of the tribal like elements you see on Black Panther's suit. Also I wanted a graphic-like symbol of Black Panther to be incorporated somewhere in the project so I created the menu icon with a likeness of the figure.
